Radiation Safety Engineer

Description

One of our important customers are in the need of strengthening their radiation team with a Radiation Safety Engineer.

Special expertise needed:

  • Experience in analysing systems with respect to determining hazards, risks and subsequent actions for necessary mitigation measures.
  • Experience in performing hazard analysis of complex engineering systems, especially with respect to radiation hazards.
  • Experience in understanding and addressing regulatory requirements
  • Experience interacting with licensing bodies or working in a regulated environment. Familiarity with the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) licensing process is beneficial
  • Experience coordinating the work of engineers with diverse backgrounds in the execution of the hazard analysis process in order to produce a coherent and comprehensive analysis with well- written supporting documentation

Required education background and professional experience:

  • Bachelor/Master in engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience in evaluation of hazards and the development and optimization of safety functions to mitigate the hazards.

The specific tasks to be performed are as:

  • Lead the ongoing process for the Hazard Analysis of Neutron scattering Instruments and/or the Bunker to define requirements for the implementation of radiation safety functions to prevent or mitigate events leading to the release of radioactive material or an increase in radiation doses
  • Assist system owners with updates to the existing qualitative Hazard Analysis (HA) of Instrument systems – guide non-experts through the process to ensure proper implementation of the HA procedure
  • Review existing qualitative analyses to verify coverage of top events by mitigations identified in the bounding scenarios for Operations
  • Ensure traceability of changes in Hazard Analyses and quantitative Accident Analyses
  • Identify gaps in analysis and/or the need for improvement in Accident Analyses and coordinate updates in the event of missing information or changes in system design
  • Instigate and follow up on studies needed to complete Hazard Analyses (ex. dose rates, shielding requirements) in coordination with ESH&S Division
  • Produce documentation supporting Hazard Analysis process
  • Provide documentation to support regulatory approval process coordinated by ESH&S Division.
  • Provide radiation safety expertise for partners and suppliers

Ensure the guidelines, standards, quality procedures, and configuration management processes for safety systems are applied where required

The consultant is expected to bring phone and computer to the assignment.
